A nose job or rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that deals with the reshaping and restructuring of the nose. People opt for this procedure primarily due to aesthetic reasons, although sometimes it can also be medically necessary. The procedure is often combined with a septoplasty. In a septoplasty, a deviated or deformed septum is corrected. Deviated septums are a problem medically because they cause various breathing problems and other such issues.

This brings us to the significant pros of rhinoplasty. Let’s take a look at the positive side of the procedure.

Its Medical Necessity

The nasal deformity can be a reason for many problems. While on the one hand, it may cause insecurity about one’s physical appearance; on the other, it can actually impede breathing. This is what happens in the case of a deviated septum. That said, other deformities like the dorsal hump, the saddle nose or a broad nasal base could cause massive insecurity.

Rhinoplasty, combined with septoplasty, targets these breathing problems and rectifies them. Luckily, it can also correct aesthetic deformities.

Aesthetic Corrections

Whether it is removing a dorsal hump or filling in a nasal depression, rhinoplasty is excellent. After administering local or general anaesthesia, the surgeon makes three incisions — one inside each nostril and one at the base of the nose.

Then they open the skin and fix whatever the patient wants in the underlying structure of bone and cartilage. This may even involve breaking the nasal bones and reshaping them. In the case of a dorsal hump, if caused by the bone, they rasp the bone.

Rasping the Bone with Ultrasonic Technology

The latest way of rasping bones is by using a machine called a Piezotome. The Piezotome uses ultrasonic technology to target only the bones. Therefore, there is zero damage to the soft tissue and cartilage surrounding the bone. This greatly reduces trauma and speeds up recovery. Therefore, this is just another pro on the list.

Now let’s check the cons of rhinoplasty…

All cons are temporary. They are true of any surgery. For example, the patient may experience some light bleeding. They may feel some discomfort. But this is all because an organ has literally been reshaped.

The splint or plaster placed over the new nasal shape may be uncomfortable. It can also take a long time for the final results to show.

However, the scariest con is the possibility of bad results. Luckily, quality control is not difficult. All you need to do is get a board-certified plastic surgeon with a stellar reputation and access to a well-equipped centre. Ensure that they are trained in the latest technology and techniques. This way, the quality of results can be maintained, and you can successfully avoid the biggest possible con on the road to getting the nose of your dreams!
